Our Guest on April 17th was the French youtuber Jake - The Korean Dream, who lives and works in Korea since eight years.
Jake, a Renowned YouTuber, Inspires Students with His Remarkable Journey
Jake, a celebrated figure in the world of YouTube with a significant following in both Korea and France, recently visited our school to share his extraordinary life story. Born and raised in France, Jake is of Chinese Cambodian descent. Eight years ago, he made the life-changing decision to move to Korea, driven by his deep admiration for Korean culture cultivated through movies, music, and Arirang TV.
Despite originally intending to pursue a career in engineering after studying science and IT at the University of Bristol, Jake found himself feeling unfulfilled in his IT job after just a year and a half. Following his heart's calling, he made the bold move to leave his job and embark on a journey to Korea, a country he had grown to love during his previous visits.
Upon his arrival in Korea, Jake faced numerous challenges in securing employment. However, with perseverance and a stroke of luck, he landed a position at a YAP company near Gyeongbokgung Palace. Utilizing his growing online presence, which he had cultivated by sharing insights about Korean lifestyle and visa procedures on his blog, Jake eventually launched his own YouTube channel.
Driven by his passion for sharing Korean culture and language with the world, Jake's YouTube content quickly gained traction, attracting a loyal following. Amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Jake diversified his endeavors by writing ebooks about Seoul's top restaurants and Korean language education, both of which garnered positive responses from his audience.
Subsequently, Jake ventured into food distribution with the goal of exporting Korean food products to France. While this business faced challenges due to the occasional export restrictions, Jake was undeterred in pursuing his dream.
He is currently planning to create a Korean language education platform and agency. he underwent various experiences before finding his own Ikigai. He said his Ikigai is helping people.(Ikigai refers to work that you like, can do well, and contributes to your livelihood and society.) He also encouraged students to find their own Ikiga.
During his visit to our school, Jake shared his inspiring journey, encouraging students to discover their own Ikigai and pursue their passions with dedication and perseverance. Additionally, he provided valuable insights into the intricacies of being a YouTuber, including the challenges of content creation, editing, and revenue generation through advertising.
Jake's presence at our school served as a source of inspiration for all who attended, leaving a profound impact on students alike. His story exemplifies the power of resilience, determination, and passion in achieving one's dreams, serving as a testament to the limitless possibilities that await those who dare to chase their aspirations.
