On May 29, we visited Bystronic located in Songdo. Bystronic is a company headquartered in Switzerland, renowned in the field of metal processing. Their main product lines include Bystronic Laser, Bending Automation, Laser Automation, Bending, and Tube. They sell all kinds of machinery for metal processing, such as metal cutting and bending machines. These are associated with industries like aircraft, train, and automobile manufacturing, construction and building, heavy industry, and semiconductors.
The program began with a visit to the Brand Experience Center. The Brand Experience Center is a type of demo center that showcases the products Bystronic sells in Korea. Director Jang assisted us during the tour, and the center featured various shapes of metal. The demonstration of the process of cutting metal using a 'laser' was particularly impressive. They cut thin metal sheets into various shapes using a laser and showed the process of engraving the words 'Incheon National University' into the metal. Next, they demonstrated the process of bending metal using a 'press brake.' They explained that the upper and lower tools come into contact, causing the metal placed between them to bend. The bending angle can change depending on the thickness of the material, its type, the force applied, and the depth.
After touring the Brand Experience Center, we returned to the lecture room where HR manager James Kang gave a talk on job-seeking strategies for foreign companies. He briefly explained which websites are good for job searches and gave some tips on resume writing, then explained the core values listed on the company’s website. He mentioned that these core values are connected to the kind of people the company is looking for and can help anticipate interview questions. Bystronic's core values are commitment, openness, and innovation, as he explained.
Finally, we heard about the products the company makes, the work they do, an introduction to Bystronic's headquarters and Bystronic Korea, and their various activities. The company holds exhibitions every year and conducts open houses 2-3 times a year. They also organize study tours, workshops, and training programs for university students, bringing customers to visit the headquarters. After a brief introduction to Swiss culture, education, and prominent companies, the program concluded.
